The 29th Annual Balboa Island Parade drew huge crowds, parrotheads

The 29th Annual Balboa Island Parade held on Sunday, June 2, brought the community together for a day of fun, music, town pride and a few parrotheads to get into the spirit of this year’s theme – “Jimmy Buffet Island Style.”

With Jon Remy serving as this year’s Grand Marshal, participants paraded down Marine Avenue, wearing and sharing their favorite island accessories – from leis and Hawaiian-print shirts and skirts, parrot and straw hats to inflatable sharks & fins while walking, riding in vehicles or on floats – they waved and threw candy at the crowd lining the street. An after-party, featuring Mark Wood and the Parrot Head Band energized attendees from the stage in front of the Fire Station.

Sponsored by the Balboa Island Improvement Association, this Island tradition was filled with local dignitaries; the USC Trojan Marching Band and Cheer; decorated cars, golf carts and floats; military veterans; kids on bikes; Island dogs; local organizations; the Keystone Cops; drill teams, marching school bands and more.
