Speak Up Newport to present November 3 ballot initiative on housing

Housing is on the Newport Beach ballot – how will you vote?

There is considerable discussion in the community as to what Measure H is and how it will affect the future of Newport Beach.

On the November 3, 2026 ballot, Newport Beach residents will be asked to vote on a citizen’s initiative that would impose limits on the amount of building and affordability requirements throughout the city.

This is the program topic at the Speak Up Newport (SUN) monthly meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Civic Center Community Room, 100 Civic Center Drive, Newport Beach.

Come hear a discussion on Measure H, including the reasons to vote for or against this proposal.

Speaking in favor of the initiative will be Walter Stahr, representing the initiative’s sponsor, the Newport Beach Stewardship Association.

Measure H relates to the state-mandated housing process that requires the city to plan for 4,845 housing units. The measure itself would amend Newport Beach’s General Plan Land Use Element to allow 2,900 affordable housing units, including 2,160 reserved for extremely low-, very low- and low-income households and 740 for moderate-income households.

The evening begins with a reception at 5:15 p.m., followed by the program from 6-7 p.m. Admission is free and no advance registration is required for the in-person event.

For those unable to attend in person, the forum will also be available via a free Zoom webinar. Advance registration for the Zoom broadcast is required. To register for the webinar, go here.
