Race for the Pot of Gold

There are many reasons to “shamrock and roll” at this year’s Spirit Run. The event hosts 12 running and walking events for every age and fitness levels along with a Youth, Fitness, & Dog Expo to unwind after you exercise. Spirit Run sweetens the deal with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

The Pot of Gold

Adults, kids and even dogs may compete to win their share of the pot of gold.

Adults compete in the Elite Mile, Masters Mile and 5k to win a share of the $5,100 cash prize purse, courtesy of some lucky leprechauns. This gold mine is attracting elite athletes from Southern California and beyond. Indeed, in the Elite Mile, men who finish faster than 4 minutes, and women in less than 4 minutes and 30 seconds, will win as much as $700, plus an additional $250 if they win the 5k.

Spirit Run’s pot of gold for children is certain to inspire those with a sweet tooth. The top three boys and girls in various age divisions in the Youth 5k and 1/4-, 1/2- and one-mile races will win Balboa Candy gift cards. A total of 84 kids youth winners will delight in this wee bit of fun.

The winning Dog Mile human/dog duos can enjoy their spoils together at the Lazy Dog restaurant. Lazy Dog gift cards will be awarded to the top two male and female youth and adult finishers.

Racing at Spirit Run is not the only opportunity to earn some loot. Adults, children and pooches may compete, alone or together, to win prizes in Spirit Run’s St. Paddy’s-themed costume contest. Prize divisions include individual adult, individual child, group of adults, group of children, family, adult/canine duo and youth/canine duo. Prizes include movie tickets and Irish-themed merchandise.

Treasure Trove of Other Giveaways

Spirit Run honors the discipline and hard work of all of its walkers and runners. Everyone (adult, child, and canine) will receive a lucky, clover leaf medal after crossing the finish line.

2023 Elite Mile first female Carina Viljoen

Newport Beach’s favorite Irish pubs will spread some Paddy magic with gifts to transport registrants straight to the Emerald Isle. In celebration of Spirit Run’s 40th year, adults can savor a pint of cheer at Malarky’s for 40 cents and a free appetizer at Muldoon’s.

Be the life of the Paddy all day long with your free St. Paddy’s swag. Spirit Run is giving registrants leprechaun-approved decorative eyeglasses and headpieces. These items can also accentuate costume competitors’ attire.
