“As parents with children in Newport-Mesa schools, my wife Whitney and I have become very concerned about what is happening in our schools,” Stemler said. “Since COVID, our schools’ academic performance and student attendance have nosedived. Parents have been looking for answers, but the district has not been transparent, instead rubber-stamping Sacramento policies that undermine parents’ rights. As a Newport Beach native, I decided to run for School Board to fight for values that put parents and students first.”

Stemler was born and raised in Newport Beach. He attended Newport-Mesa schools from kindergarten until his graduation from Corona del Mar High School, where he competed on the varsity soccer and sailing teams. He earned his Bachelor of Arts at Yale University and was a four-year recruited member of the varsity sailing team.

After college, Stemler earned his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. Since graduating law school, he has dedicated his career to public safety as a prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office of San Bernardino County. He specializes in public corruption prosecutions and appellate litigation in the Court of Appeal and California Supreme Court.

“My priorities for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District are clear,” Stemler said. “Students must be kept safe; our children need to be educated, not indoctrinated, and the district needs to be fully transparent with both parents and taxpayers alike.”

Stemler and his wife Whitney have been married for 12 years. They live in Newport Beach with their two sons. Both boys are students at Newport-Mesa schools. He has volunteered as an AYSO soccer coach for his eldest son’s teams and coached several high school mock trial teams.

The election for Newport-Mesa Unified School District Trustee Area 3 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5. This is a non-partisan election.
