OASIS Sailing Club to hold open house on opening day

The OASIS Sailing Club, part of the Friends of OASIS, is holding their 37th Opening Day Ceremony along with an open house for the public, on Friday, April 19. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with registration, followed by the ceremony at 11 a.m. After the ceremony, lunch will be served and their fleet of two Catalina 34 sloops will be open for inspection.

The ceremony will be held at the Balboa Yacht Basin located at 829 Harbor Island Drive, Newport Beach, adjacent to Dock E.

The club expects 125 attendees consisting of fellow yacht club officers and members, city officials, guests and the general public.  The open house, held in conjunction with the ceremony, will feature boat tours and informational displays.

In keeping with the opening day tradition, the ceremony will include a patriotic opening, blessing of their crew and boats, recognition of their fallen members and reports on the condition of their crews, boats and the harbor.

The ceremony will conclude with an on-water display by the Orange County Harbor Patrol. All are welcome.
