Three killed in midnight collision involving vehicle and construction equipment on Coast Highway

Early yesterday morning, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the Newport Beach Police Department dispatch received 911 calls regarding a single vehicle traffic collision in the 3000 block of W. Coast Highway. A vehicle, traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway, struck a curb and ultimately collided with construction equipment on the south side of the road and caught fire.

Upon arrival, officers located three deceased passengers inside the vehicle. Their names have not yet been released by the Orange County Coroner’s office.

Three construction workers suffered minor non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

An investigation continued well into the morning hours with the NBPD Major Accident Investigation Team on scene. Both eastbound and westbound Pacific Coast Highway remained closed during this time from Superior Avenue to Riverside Avenue.
