Library celebrates holiday season with Nutcracker for Kids and Mark Gibson, magician

The Newport Beach Public Library (NPL) is presenting two family holiday performances of Nutcracker for Kids.

The first is the Nutcracker for Kids that will take place Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Friends Meeting Room, located at 1000 Avocado Ave.

The program is designed for the whole family to enjoy. Nutcracker for Kids is an abridged narrated version of the holiday classic presented by Festival Ballet Theatre. The shortened performance features a cast of professional dancers in complete costumes and tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives the gift of a nutcracker soldier from her mysterious godfather. Overnight, the nutcracker is magically transformed into a handsome prince who takes Clara on an enchanting journey.

Two performances will be offered, at 2 p.m. and, again, at 3:30 p.m.

Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ticket distribution, for both shows, will begin at 1 p.m. and ticket holders should return 15 minutes prior to the show to be seated.

The second event will be the Mark Gibson Magic Show scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Corona del Mar Library, 410 Marigold Ave., in CdM.

This program is also designed for the entire family and features the amazing magic of Mark Gibson.

There will be two shows, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with strolling magic in between.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. No reservations required. First come, first served, limited by room capacity.

The magic show is one-part of the Holiday Open House also planned at the CdM Library on December 8 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Funding for both programs is generously donated by the Friends of the Library.
