Library offering contest and activities for Halloween season

The Newport Beach Public Library (NBPL) welcomes the fall season with a fun new program for tweens and teens – the “Spooktacular Short Stories & Art program,” where creative minds can share Halloween-themed short stories and art pieces.

This program running now through November 7 with the chance for three lucky teens to win a $25 gift card to Amazon. Tweens and teens from 5th through 12th grade are welcome to join in, and everyone who participates will be submitted into the drawing to win.

Short story submissions should be between 500-2,000 words, and each participant can submit up to six works for entries into the opportunity drawing. Entries must be original content created by the person submitting the story, but if you’re struggling to find inspiration, the program includes a list of creative Halloween prompts to spark your muse.

The NBPL offers fun and exciting Halloween activities for children as well. The Spooktacular Children’s Program, running from October 19 through October 31, offers a Virtual Costume Parade for kids to show off their scariest Halloween costumes on the library’s website and social media accounts.

Halloween craft kits can also be picked up at any of the four libraries in the Newport Beach Public Library system, which includes Central Library, Crean Mariners Branch Library, Corona del Mar Branch Library and Balboa Branch Library. Each craft kit will come with a prize drawing ticket for entry into the opportunity drawing to win a prize bag. Winners will be drawn on November 2 and will be notified by phone.
