CORE Athletic Training to offer fall sports programs for Newport Beach youth

CORE Athletic Training, now in its seventh year of business coaching local youth throughout the beach communities, is offering a variety of kids’ afterschool sports and activity programs this fall.

In light of COVID-19 guidelines and remote schooling, CORE, who typically partners with local beach city schools (including Andersen Elementary, Harbor View Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Mariners Elementary and Newport Coast Elementary) and city recreation departments to offer afterschool and weekend sports programs, has found creative ways to continue offering their programs this fall.

CORE offers afterschool sports and activity programs this fall

This year, CORE has expanded its partnership with the Newport Beach Recreation Dept. to offer afterschool recreational recess classes in accordance with city guidelines. Programs begin the first week of each month and run for four weeks each. In addition, CORE is offering parents the option to customize their own private afterschool, PE enrichment and weekend programs to fit each family’s comfort level and cater to each group’s needs.

As with all current CORE programs, kids will be required to have face masks and observe social distancing. CORE will also limit the amount of shared equipment and keep class sizes to a maximum of 16 kids, among other health and safety precautions.

Like most businesses over the past six months, CORE has been pivoting and reinventing itself with each regulatory change. When the mid-March business closures occurred, CORE initially offered Zoom sports classes both publicly and in partnership with schools, as supplemental PE classes and launched an Athletic Training video series on YouTube. As cities reopened in June, CORE offered and ran more than a dozen private summer camps, as well as public small group camps in partnership with the Newport Beach City Recreation Dept.

Athletic programs engage youngsters of all age and skill levels

Fall Programs:

Afterschool Athletics: Multi-week programs are designed to enrich the athletic experience by instilling a lifelong affinity for healthy activity, integrate lesson plans that are fun and engaging for kids of all ages, abilities and experience levels, and weave in important life lessons that help build character values. Classes provide the dose of afternoon activity kids need to stay strong and healthy through the school year.

Custom PE Enrichment: Multi-week programs raise the bar on your standard PE class through customized curriculums that combine fun activities, sports techniques, athletic drills, strength exercises and functional training to keep kids healthy, physically active and on top of their game. CORE works with

school administrators, PTA groups and other organizations to design custom programs for each group’s needs.

Private Weekend Sports and Athletics Camps: Led by Senior CORE coaches, one-, two- or three-day Private Weekend and Holiday Camps are exclusive camp experiences for small groups of siblings and friends. Camps are customized half-day experiences that include any combination of sports, games, drills, activities and challenges. Each family can choose and book the location, invite a crew of up to 16 kids, and then let CORE deliver the weekend fun.

Youth stay active while building camaraderie

“Our goal is to offer parents safe options for their kids to not only stay active and healthy, but to socialize with their friends. In talking with our CORE kids, most say what they miss most during this time is playing with their friends,” said Jon Bohrer, founder and president of CORE. “We’ve kept this top of mind and worked extremely hard to be nimble, creative and supportive with our sports solutions.”
