A library card is your “passport” to books, activities and so much more

Kids’ Library Card

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. From borrowing books, eBooks, and learning new skills, or attending storytime, a library card helps you do more of what you enjoy. Fire up your imagination, dive into learning, or take up a new hobby – a library card is your most important tool. Stop by any one of their four branches and get a new kids’ library card. We look forward to seeing you at the library!

Get creative the first Thursday of every month at Makerspace

Fairy Tale Crafternoon

On Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 4-5 p.m. at Central Library’s Children’s Room, come express your creativity and imagination with fairy tale-inspired crafts. Recommended for children ages 3 and up. No registration is required, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Game Day

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 4-5 p.m. at Central Library’s Stahr Storytime Room, join an afternoon of family fun with board games and puzzles. Relax after school every third Tuesday of the month, as you meet new friends and try out games. No registration is required, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Middle School Book Club

Calling all 4th through 6th grade book lovers! This book club is especially for you. On the third Thursday of every month, you’ll meet to discuss the book of the month followed by a fun activity to go along with that month’s pick. September’s book pick is Stand Up Yumi Chung! by Jessica Kim, so head over to Central Library on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 4-5 p.m. Participants can join in person or virtually via Zoom. Registration is required, so sign up here.

Learn about local wildlife with the Environmental Nature Center visits Central Library on September 26

Wildlife in Our Own Backyard

Learn about the wildlife in our own backyard when the Environmental Nature Center visits Central Library on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 4-5 p.m. for this hands-on learning program focused on nature and ecosystems. Registration is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Funding is generously provided by the Friends of the Library.

Halloween fun awaits this October from crafts and magic to a holiday party

Halloween events at the Library

Join an array of events including Halloween Craft-O-Rama at the Balboa Branch (October 25, 3-4 p.m.), Halloween Hoopla at the Mariners Branch (October 26 from 4-5 p.m.), a Magic Show at Corona del Mar (October 27 from 4-5 p.m.) and a Halloween Party at Central Library (October 31 from 4-5 p.m.).
