3rd Annual Homecoming Tailgate & Game
5 p.m. at the Environmental Nature Center (ENC) next door to Davidson Field. Join the Sailor family for food, drink, old friends, and football on the beautiful patio at the ENC, and then head over to cheer on the Sailors against Huntington Beach and enjoy the Homecoming fun at Davidson Field beginning a 7 p.m. The evening will also feature a meaningful tribute to 50 years of the John Gust Football Award, established to honor John Gust, Class of 1974, an outstanding football player and wrestler who was killed in an auto accident on a skiing trip. Following his example, each year this memorial award is given to the NHHS player who exemplifies perseverance, purpose and teamwork. This season will recognize the 50th anniversary of this award, so the Tailgate will include a special presentation to celebrate this milestone. All Gust Award Winners, as well as John Gust’s family, friends and teammates will meet at Davidson Field at 4:45 p.m. for a group photo. Sage Center Speaker Series: How to Raise Successful Kids without Overparenting
5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Kazu Fukuda Black Box Theater. Speaker: Julie Lythcott-Haims, who believes in humans and is deeply interested in what gets in our way. Her work encompasses writing, speaking, public service and activism. She is a New York Times bestselling author of books on human development, a TED speaker, a former Stanford dean, and a lawyer. She holds degrees from Stanford University (BA), Harvard Law (JD) and California College of the Arts (MFA), and serves on numerous nonprofit boards whose work focuses on equity, education, youth, wellness and the arts.
Her critically acclaimed books, How to Raise an Adult and Your Turn: How to Be an Adult, have been called a “groundbreakingly frank” guide to adulthood, while her poetry memoir Real American illustrates her experience as a Black and biracial person in white spaces. To register, go here.

Bereavement Support Group – In Person
Thursdays, April 27-June 15 from 4-5:30 p.m. | Cost: $25 | Join this eight-week series that provides a safe environment to examine your old beliefs about dealing with loss and how it has impacted your life, in addition to gaining new tools that will lead you to complete unresolved grief. This group is open to all community members over the age of 18, and is not restricted to any particular type of grief. The group will meet in person at the Hoag Family Cancer Institute in Newport Beach. Regular attendance is strongly encouraged. Once you have registered, a member of their team will reach out to go over additional information and collect the $25 course fee.
