Mercedes crashes into parked box truck on PCH, killing 29-year-old driver and injuring two others

Sunday night (Nov. 20), at approximately 7:59 p.m., Newport Beach Police responded to a traffic collision in the 3300 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway, between Hoag Hospital and Riverside Avenue involving two vehicles, a Mercedes and an unoccupied parked box truck. 

The Mercedes sustained major damage and had three occupants inside, two males and one female. Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced one male deceased on scene. The other two occupants were extracted and transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. 

According to the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s office, the decedent’s name is Juan Francisco Hernandez, 29, from Whittier, Calif.

Westbound lanes of Coast Highway were closed following the traffic collision while NBPD and other personnel dealt with the situation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
