Giant blue whales provide entertainment for locals just off our coast

Video by Delaney Trowbridge (@Seataceans) &

Erica Page (@PlanetWhale)

Last Saturday, crew members aboard the fast raft boat, Newport Coastal Adventure, came across multiple giant blue whales cruising off the coast, including several pairs of moms and babies. Amazingly, one of these pairs became curious of the small boat and its passengers. They call this behavior “mugging,” because the boat’s engines are in neutral and the whales circle the boat becoming playful. This baby Blue Whale mugged for more than 45 minutes. It’s a great time for whale watching @NewportCoastal Adventure.
