Historical Society to debut new museum next week in Fun Zone

Representatives for the Newport Beach Historical Society (NBHS) have announced plans for the grand opening of their new museum which will be located at the iconic Balboa Fun Zone. The grand opening event will take place on Friday, June 28 starting at 5 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Historical Society, in partnership with the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, will feature a DJ, sweet treats and light refreshments, along with a cash bar to celebrate the occasion.

The new museum will offer visitors a journey through Newport Beach’s rich history, showcasing a diverse array of historical memorabilia and artifacts. From its origins as a coastal gem to its evolution into a vast and vibrant community, the Newport Beach Historical Society’s museum promises to be an educational and entertaining experience for all ages.

Historical artifacts and memorabilia from days gone by to be exhibited throughout the new museum

“We are beyond honored to call the Balboa Fun Zone our new home,” said Bernie Svalstad, president of the Newport Beach Historical Society. “This fresh space is a modern twist on our rich local history. Our board members have been working hard over the last few months to bring this museum to life and we are so very proud of it. We can’t wait to officially open the doors to the community.”

The grand opening event is free and open to the public.

The Newport Beach Historical Society was formed by Bill Grundy in 1967, later led by his son Gordon Grundy. It was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation in December 2014.
