Forty-second Annual Mayor’s Dinner brings community members together for State of the City Address and mayor recognitions

On Thursday, Feb. 29, the community gathered at the VEA Newport Beach for the 42nd Annual Mayor’s Dinner, presented by Speak Up Newport, and to hear Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill deliver the State of the City Address.

Highlights of the evening were the Salute to Newport Beach Mayors (past and present), joining one another at the dais and Mayor O’Neill presenting representatives of the Ben Carlson Memorial & Scholarship Foundation (who honor the legacy of Ben Carlson, the fallen Newport Beach lifeguard) with a Key to the City.

Mayor O’Neill, who is serving a second term as mayor, delivered an uplifting State of the City Address, acknowledging the NBPD and NBFD, community projects in the works such as Save the Balboa Island Ferry, building the new Jr. Lifeguard Headquarters and Newport Beach trash-collecting water wheel, among others, and the positive financial position of the city and importance of recognizing “helpers” who perform good works through volunteering.
