With Hoag Classic golf coming…organizers unveil beyond first-class way to enjoy it

The Hoag Classic is fast approaching at Newport Beach Country Club (March 22-24). Now, I ask you, what better way to enjoy watching the best names in golf from the PGA TOUR Champions than by walking along the ropes bordering the fairways and greens out at NBCC?

If you’re nodding your head agreeing with me while reading along and finding yourself saying, “Nothing…I’m so excited about it!” Maybe take a deep breath, here, and think about this…

Tournament organizers are offering something new and even more exciting, that has a true Newport Beach feel to it. It’s called the Lux Club, and it’s being sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton Residences/Newport Beach.

Here’s what’s entailed: First off, know that you’ll receive three days of access to the most exclusive hospitality offerings available at the Hoag Classic.

You’ll start your days, not fighting for a parking spot in some nearby parking area…no, you’ll enjoy daily valet parking at the VEA Newport Beach and then access the course through a private entrance.

You’ll have four exclusive viewing/hospitality locations to then enjoy around the course, starting with the VEA; next is a hospitality area and private box located directly behind the 5th tee, which includes outstanding views of action on the third and fourth holes, in addition to the fifth tee; next is the beautiful and always exciting par-3 17th and finally, of course, the NBCC clubhouse.

Oh, and while walking between holes is always nice, you’ll enjoy the private on-course shuttle service between each of those locations listed above…visit one…or visit them all.

And remember, no worries about muddying up those new shoes!

Did I mention the food? Begin by enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres and craft cocktails served throughout the day at all locations.

Then, there will also be Celebrity Chef Curated Menus at each location, as well.

–At the VEA Resort and Spa, Lux Club members will enjoy offerings from the VIEW Restaurant & Lounge prepared by Executive Chef Andrew Arndt.

–At the 5th hole location, the Pendry Newport Beach will be on-hand featuring items from Set Steak & Sushi with Executive Chef James Jung (aka JJ).

–On 17, the Balboa Bay Resort’s A + O Restaurant will feature Executive Chef Prabeen Prathapan and his offerings

–When you venture up to the clubhouse at NBCC, enjoy what Executive Chef Graeme Blair will have prepared for you.

And, like the Ginsu knife commercials themselves, this is where I step in and say, “Wait, there’s more!”

–The Lux Club is also providing a VIP Invitation to the exclusive Hoag Classic Opening Night Party that takes place at the VEA and will feature a surprise appearance by a three-time, multi-platinum Country Music guest(s).

–Remembering this weekend is about some golf, Lux Club members will enjoy a private golf clinic and reception at an appointed time with a PGA TOUR Champions professional on the NBCC driving range.

–And, finally, an Elwood Club reservation and access will be available to Lux Club members during Hoag Classic Tournament Week.

Now, really, that’s a way to enjoy golf.

It’s an exclusive hospitality package that is shareable and transferable.

If you like it and want it, or to find out more about it, contact Ryan Elmajian at the Hoag Classic office, or call 949.660.1001.

Today is another installment of Talking Sports at OASIS Senior Center from 3-5 p.m. It’s a free gathering that any and all are invited to. The group only has three rules: NO dues, NO politics, unless it’s dealing with the world of sports (an example might be something like LIV vs. the PGA in the world of golf) and EVERYONE gets the opportunity to talk.

This group has been organized by the Mr. Newport Beach Laird Hayes and me to offer a somewhat loosely organized gathering where people can meet to talk and hear about any and all in the world of sports.

This week, we will have Scott Daruty as our guest speaker. If you’ve ever liked to put a couple of bucks down on a horse, say to win, place or show, then Scott might just be your guy.

He’s president of Monarch Content Management, LLC and Elite Turf Club. In addition, Daruty serves as senior vice president of Los Angles Turf Club, Inc., which operates the historic Santa Anita Park racetrack in Arcadia.

Monarch also acts as the simulcast purchase and sales agent for more than one dozen premier North American racetracks, including Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park, Del Mar, Golden Gate Fields, Monmouth Park and Pimlico Race Course.

Monarch Content Management sells horse racing content from its stable of racetracks to a variety of domestic and international wagering outlets, including racetracks, casinos, off-track wagering facilities and advance deposit wagering companies; and purchases horse racing content from other content producers for distribution to its member racetracks and to its affiliated advance deposit wagering companies, XpressBet and 1/ST Bet.

Okay, Scott’s a glorified “bookie!” Okay, not really. But come join us and find out more about what he does, and other things in the world of sports.

B-t-w, the group is gaining popularity as the number of attendees increases. We’re also settling in on a permanent name for the group. It started at Just Sports; morphed to Talking Sports; and now, how about Tackling Sports?

It’s Laird’s latest idea and he’s sort of a football guy. Frankly, I like it.

Special Shake Shack Leap Year Day creation

Leap year will be celebrated next week. Here’s a limited-time indulgence to be available on that day, Thursday, Feb. 29 at the Shake Shack in Crystal Cove. It’s a special milkshake celebrating this extra day…made with cotton candy-infused soft serve and adorned with a spectacular array of toppings, including a cloud of whipped cream, a juicy cherry, sprinkles, unicorn gummies and a lollipop to top it off.

You may enjoy this special shake at the one and only Shake Shack in Crystal Cove.

I love going there. This one will be popular. You might want to get in line now. Ha! Ha!
