Artwork by Don Krotee

Plein Air painting (meaning literally “painting outside”) dates to Monet’s impressionist painting career. Outdoor painting is very popular with local plein air painting groups, often poised on the view patios of the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center. This such painting views south from the Muth and shows the atmosphere, lifting over the many waterways of our Upper Newport Bay. In the far upper left are impressions of north facing homes in Eastbluff. The painting is 16” x 20,” transparent watercolor, painted on 140# paper.

Don Krotee is a 37-year resident of Corona del Mar and a board member of SPON, Newport’s oldest environmental nonprofit. Krotee is an architect, a sailor and a fine artist, providing images of his original paintings and drawings to Stu News from iconic Newport Beach and around the world.
