Balboa Bay Club holds annual 1221 Scholarship Awards

On Tuesday, May 28, the Balboa Bay Club held their annual 1221 Scholarship Awards, whereby $192,000 was awarded to hand-selected students of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

Co-emceeded by State Assemblywoman Diane Dixon and John Wortmann, chairman of the Board of Governors, Balboa Bay Club, Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor high school awardees were recognized, among the district scholarship winners.

Recognized Scholars:

–Pinnacle Scholarship recipient: Gavin Appeldorn (Newport Harbor High School), was awarded $15,000 for his exceptional achievements in academics and athletics.

–Balboa Bay Club Scholarship recipient: Kate Stake (Newport Harbor High School), was awarded $13,000.

– Governor’s Scholarship recipient: Logan Hardy (Newport Harbor High School), was awarded $10,000.

–1221 Scholarship recipients, who received $2,000 each, plus an additional $3,000 each in Care Scholarships from a private donation:

~Corona del Mar High School: Alexandra Grant, Christian Brooks, Carson Simonson, Kaydence Osgood, Niels Hoffmann and Piper Blackband

~Newport Harbor High School: Angel Gutierrez and Aolani Gonzalez-Lopez

To date, the 1221 Scholarship Fund has proudly awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarships, a testament to the commitment to fostering educational opportunities and supporting the future leaders of our community. This milestone has been made possible through the generous support of private donations, club events and the contributions from dedicated 1221 Club Members.
