110th annual Christmas Boat Parade kicks off with Grand Marshal Albert Pujols, LA Angels first baseman

Three-time National League MVP and two-time World Series champion Albert Pujols will preside as Grand Marshal for the opening night of the 110th annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. The Angels first baseman will be accompanied by his wife and five children aboard the Ohana Kai II to watch the festively and elaborately decorated yachts, sailboats and small electric boats twinkle on the harbor.

Locals and visitors alike can enjoy the spectacle from a variety of public viewing locations including numerous waterfront restaurants and the 10.5-acre Marina Park. Festivities will begin in Marina Park at 4:30 p.m., with family-friendly activities including face painters, caricature artists, an LA Chargers football toss competition and food vendors. Onlookers will also be treated to a live musical performance by The Young Americans. On opening night, the parade will commence with a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 6:15 p.m. from Newport Pier.

Can’t make it on Wednesday, Dec. 19? The parade continues through Sunday, Dec. 23 with a designated Grand Marshal each night including:

–Thursday, Dec. 20 - A Salute to Hometown Heroes: Cheer on our local heroes, those first-responders and lifesavers who serve our communities, as they lead the evening’s festivities.

–Friday, Dec. 21 - The Young Americans®: Founded in 1962, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to the promotion of understanding and goodwill among people throughout the world. Dubbed as America’s Musical Ambassadors, they use the power of music, dance, performance, academics and cultural interaction to foster their mission.

–Saturday, Dec. 22 - A Celebration of Christmas Movies and Music with Olive Crest: Children and families of Olive Crest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and treating and educating at-risk children, bring holiday sentiments of family fun and the spirit of Christmas to life.

–Sunday, Dec. 23 - Corona del Mar High School Drum Line: The CdM Drum Line is one of the premier performing groups at Corona del Mar High School. It serves as a musical ambassador, performing regularly in pep rallies as well as at school and community events. A fireworks show will close out the parade.

Boat Parade route map with best public viewing spots

The parade sets the harbor aglow commencing at the tip of Lido Isle at 6:30 p.m. and finishing at the same site around 9 p.m. each evening. Registered boats and homes receive the Commemorative 2018 Parade Burgee Flag and Plaque and are eligible for prizes. Winners receive free tickets to the Awards Dinner & Auction on January 25, 2019 at the Fashion Island Hotel.
